If your pool coping is made up of pavers, you’re eventually going to notice efflorescence. It typically shows up as white, chalky spots around the paver coping and is especially common because the joints between the coping pavers receive grout.
One of the easiest ways to help reduce efflorescence around pool copings is to keep your pool water level below the skimmer. This is especially important during our rainy season from July through September, when it can seem like it rains almost every day. Heavy rain can quickly raise your pool water above the skimmer line, putting the water directly against your paver coping.

- Cleaner Pool Water: Keeping your pool water within the proper skimmer range allows your skimmer to work effectively and helps maintain cleaner pool water.
- Reduced Efflorescence: Nobody wants to see white, chalky efflorescence building up around their pool paver coping. Keeping the water level below the skimmer can help reduce prolonged water contact with the pavers and minimize efflorescence.
- Reduced Risk of Paver Sealer Failure: If you’re preparing to have your pool deck pavers sealed, lower the water level to approximately the midpoint of the skimmer opening. Pavers that are saturated with water especially around the coping may prevent the sealer from properly adhering and can contribute to premature sealer failure.
